First of all, when it comes to basketball, coaching and playing it are two very different things.
First of all, you need to know all of your players. You must comprehend their strengths, their weaknesses, and you need to know just where to position each of them. There are a number of different positions when it comes to basketball playbook. Some are meant to shoot, others are meant to block. Naturally these should all be interchangeable if needed, but you know where your best players should be.
Making sure that your team runs basketball drills is vital. First of all, they need the ability to run short distances with incredible bursts of speed. The ability to do so will determine whether or not they can actually win, and this ability will really help them to shine during games against stronger opponents. That being said, you will want to get to work right away.
Learning to dribble a ball is also quite essential, because if the players don’t know how then there will be loads of challenges and annoyances- as well as penalties. Two basketball violations-double dribbling and traveling- can be avoided by lots of practice and drills to help improve the players’ dribbling. Of course, the players will tire of these drills, but you mustn’t stop until the players have mastered the technique to perfection. This will help to ensure more chances of winning games. Victory comes with the price of hard work, and you must be willing to pay if you want it.
Giving team members different assignments and teaching them to work together is paramount. You should constantly remind them that there is no ‘I’ in team, and once they begin working in harmony, your team will be virtually unstoppable! The only real question now is what you’re waiting for. Sure it can be a bit intimidating, after all there are a ton of things to learn regarding coaching, and as you go along you will undoubtedly find that it is both rewarding and challenging.
Remember, players must be able to take advantage of their individual skills so long as it fits in with the team. At all times the coach should maintain a positive attitude as a means of keeping the players in a positive attitude. Remember negativity never solves anything even if it seems warranted. As you can see there are plenty of things to remember when coaching basketball, and you will find that all of the basketball plays and the hard work might be time consuming, but in the end, don’t you think it would be worth it if you can watch that winning ball fly through the hoops?
