Coaches vs Counselors – Reasons to Choose Marriage Coaching
Most people incorrectly assume that the best way to fix their marital problems is to spend time with a marriage counselor. However, it’s important to note that marriage counseling doesn’t provide a magical solution, as it hasn’t worked out for a lot of couples. I’ve known many couples who went to counseling which did nothing to repair the rift in their marriage. In face, I don’t know of any that didn’t end up getting divorced, and it’s enough to make me wonder why people continue to spend time and money consulting with them. If you’re looking for a better solution for your problems, then you should consider going to a marriage coach.
The clues to why this is the case lie right in the names. You’ll probably find that talking to your feelings with a counselor isn’t very effective. Obviously you were unhappy and depressed with something or you wouldn’t be there in the first place. The last thing you need is to try and psychoanalyze yourself. You’ll find the answers that you’re looking for with a marriage coach. Many couples have been able to reignite the spark in their marriage after a few sessions with a coach. All marriages are works in progress, and it’s worthwhile to do what you can to save them.
Counselors simply show you the reasons why you two would feel better by getting divorced. It isn’t exactly helpful for couples to spend a lot of time dwelling on the negative aspects of their marriage, something that’s quite common during the course of marriage counseling. Counselors also help ease the effects of divorce, which is a good thing, but you should be working to save the marriage instead of trying to make divorce less painful. After understanding the differences between a counselor and a coach and you still want to attend counseling, then that’s entirely your decision. Couples that want to rebuild what they once shared would be much better off going to a coach instead.
One of the main reasons you should consider going to a coach is because you’ll learn about all the problems that married couples face just like you, and you’ll also learn tactics and strategies on how to deal with them. You’ll have the benefit of having someone by your side to construct and help you two implement a plan. You’re advised not to waste too much time feeling sorry about yourself and the situation, which is something you’ll do plenty of in counseling.
