Glenwood Springs Eats
When we decided to change our life and escape the hectic city life we began looking for our next heaven on earth. Living on the California coast was fun, but crowded regardless of what entertainment we decided to do. We had talked about Colorado and the wide open spaces, especially on the Western Slope with towns like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.

Flying into Grand Junction we ventured east on Interstate 70 to check out Aspen and Vail. It was late afternoon when we drove into Glenwood Springs and felt this would be a nice place to spend the night and then decide on Aspen or Vail in the morning. We elected to rest at the old and quaint Hotel Colorado and after settling into our room we wanted to explore what Glenwood Springs gave us to see. The concierge suggested some quint shops to visit, but when we asked about fine dining she said it depends on the cuisine you want to try. Being in Colorado I wanted a juicy steak, but my wife insisted on seafood like in California. I told her the nearest ocean was several miles distant, so the seafood would never be as fresh as we could get back home, but she demanded. So his recommendation was a small dining establishment right across the foot bridge called Juicy Lucy’s steak house where we could have the best of both worlds.

After visiting several little stores we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a short wait at the historic bar we were shown our table. As I reviewed the menu I noticed the best meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. All natural grilled elk sirloin sliced and served on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I wasintrigued by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the choices. I was even more impressed by their daily offerings such as; Beef Tenderloin in Tuscany Wine Sauce or Grilled Hawaiian Opa with Oriental Citrus Glaze. I had to ask about the age and quality since it was obvious the closest real water was a long distance away. He they only purchase the best ingredients and the fresh catch is flown in daily six days a week. My wife ordered the Sea Scallops and I have to say if you had no idea you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would think you were at a seafood restaurant on the coast.

Next day on the tour we decided on Basalt, and couldn’t get over the small villages from all over the Aspen Valley. At This place we could snowshoe in the winter, explore in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a theater or concert almost any night. We found our wonderful retirement place and knowing that no matter where we end up in the area we were only a small distance away from the freshest seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have guessed that a fine dining establishment named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would facilitate us make one of the best choices ever.
