When we decided to change our life style and escape the rat race of city life we started seeking out our next heaven on earth. Residing on the California coast was enjoyable, but packed regardless of what entertainment we picked to do. We had heard about Colorado and the big areas of openness, especially in western Colorado with towns like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.
Flying into Grand Junction we ventured east on Interstate 70 to check out Western Colorado. It was late in the day when we arrived in Glenwood Springs and decided this would be a good place to stay the weekend and then decide on Aspen or Vail after that. We choose to stop at the old and quaint Hotel Colorado and once we were checked in we wanted to discover what Glenwood Springs has to do. The receptionist suggested some small shops to visit, but when we inquired about places to eat he suggested it depends on the food you want to enjoy. Being in Colorado I wanted a big fat steak, but my better half insisted on seafood like back home. I explained to her the nearest ocean was too many miles distant, so the seafood should never be as fresh as we could get back home, but she held her foot down. So his suggestions was a quaint eatery directly across the foot bridge called Juicy Lucy’s Seafood and Steak House where we could have the greatest variety of both.
After visiting several small stores we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a short amount of time at the historic bar we were shown our table. As I skimmed the menu I saw the perfect meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. Organically grilled elk sirloin shaved and served on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I wasintrigued by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the choices. I was even more impressed by their daily specials such as; Broiled Sea Scallops stuffed with Alaskan King Crab or Fresh fish Mequite Grilled over the BBQ. I had to ask about the freshness and quality since it was certain the closest real water was many miles away. He nurtured they only include the finest ingredients and the seafood is flown in daily six days a week. My wife selected the Sea Scallops and I have to say if you had no idea you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would insist you just had dinner in a seafood restaurant on the coast.
For our next days excursions we decided on Basalt, and fell in love with the small pueblos from Aspen to Glenwood Springs. In this valley we could snowshoe in the winter, explore in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a fun event or concert almost any night. We found our paradise and knowing that no matter where we settled in the valley we were only a small distance away from the freshest seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have guessed that a restaurant named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would help us make one of the greatest decisions of our life.
