At the point we decided to change our life style and escape the hectic city life we started seeking out our paradise. Living on the California coast was great, but crowded no matter what activities we decided to do. We had heard about Colorado and the wide open spaces, especially in western Colorado with villages like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.
Landing the plane in into Grand Junction we started east on Interstate 70 to check out Aspen and Vail. It was late afternoon when we arrived in Glenwood Springs and decided this would be a great place to stop over and then decide on Aspen or Vail in the morning. We elected to stay at the historic Hotel Colorado and once we were checked in we wanted to see what Glenwood Springs has to do. The concierge suggested some quint shops to visit, but when we inquired about places to eat she suggested it depends on the food you wish to eat. Being in Colorado I wanted a big fat steak, but my wife wanted seafood like back home. I explained to her the closest ocean was too many miles away, so the seafood could never be asflavorful as we could get back home, but she demanded. So her suggestions was a quaint restaurant right across the foot bridge called Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse where we could have the best selection for both.
After visiting several small shops we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a short amount of time at the historic bar we were seated. As I looked over the menu I saw the right meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. All natural grilled elk sirloin shaved and served on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I wassurprised by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the choices. I was even more impressed by their daily specials like; Beef Tenderloin in Tuscany Wine Sauce or Grilled Hawaiian Opa with Oriental Citrus Glaze. I had to inquire about the freshness and quality since it was obvious the closest ocean was far away. He they only use the finest ingredients and the fresh catch is flown in fresh six days a week. My wife choose the Sea Scallops and I will tell you this if you had no idea you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would think you just had dinner in a seafood restaurant by the beach.
Next day on the tour we decided on Aspen, and couldn’t get over the small villages from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. In this valley we could snowshoe in the winter, fly fish in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a theater or concert almost any night. We found our paradise and knowing that regardless where we settled in the valley we were only a short trip away from the best seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have thought that a dining area named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would help us make one of the best choices ever.
