Hidden Dining in Western Colorado is Juicy Lucy’s Steak House – Places To Eat In Glenwood Springs
Glenwood Springs Eats
When we decided to alter our life style and escape the rat race of city life we started seeking out our paradise. Living on the California coast was great, but packed no matter what activities we picked to do. We had talked about Colorado and the wide open spaces, especially in western Colorado with villages like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, yet a real culture and population.
Landing the plane in into Grand Junction we headed east on Interstate 70 to check out Western Colorado. It was late morning when we drove into Glenwood Springs and felt this would be a great place to stop over and then decide on Aspen or Vail the next day. We elected to rest at the historic Hotel Colorado and after settling into our room we wanted to explore what Glenwood Springs gave us to see. The front desk clerk suggested some small shops to visit, but when we inquired about places to eat he said it depends on the food you want to enjoy. Being in Colorado I wanted a juicy steak, but my better half insisted on seafood like in California. I told her the closest ocean was several miles distant, so the seafood should never be as fresh as we could get back home, but she demanded. So her suggestions was a quaint restaurant directly across the bridge called Juicy Lucy’s Seafood and Steak House where we could have the best of both worlds.
Once we had finished visiting several little shops we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a short duration at the historic bar we were shown our table. As I skimmed the menu I noticed the perfect meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. All natural grilled elk sirloin shaved and presented on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I was impressed by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the menu. I was even more impressed by their daily offerings such as; Broiled Sea Scallops stuffed with Alaskan King Crab or Grilled Hawaiian Opa with Oriental Citrus Glaze. I had to ask about the flavor and quality since it was obvious the nearest real water was a long distance away. He explained they only include the finest ingredients and the fresh catch is flown in each morning six days a week. My wife selected the Sea Scallops and I have to say if you didn’t know you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would insist you just had dinner in a seafood restaurant on the coast.
The next day we decided on Basalt, and fell in love with the small pueblos from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. At This place we could ski in the winter, fly fish in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a theater or concert almost any night. We found our paradise and knowing that regardless where we moved to in the valley we were only a short trip away from the freshest seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have thought that a restaurant named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would facilitate us make one of the greatest decisions ever.
