At the point we decided to alter our life and escape the hectic city life we started seeking out our next heaven on earth. Residing on the California coast was great, but packed regardless of what entertainment we picked to do. We had talked about Colorado and the wide open spaces, especially in western Colorado with villages like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.
Landing the plane in into Grand Junction we ventured east on Interstate 70 to check out Aspen and Vail. It was late in the day when we arrived in Glenwood Springs and decided this would be a good place to stay the weekend and then decide on Aspen or Vail in the morning. We decided to stay at the old and quaint Hotel Colorado and after settling into our room we wanted to explore what Glenwood Springs has to do. The front desk clerk suggested some nice shops to see, but when we inquired about places to eat she suggested it depends on the cuisine you want to enjoy. Being in Colorado I wanted a big fat steak, but my wife insisted on seafood like in California. I reminded her the closest ocean was several miles distant, so the seafood should never be ashigh quality as we could get at home, but she insisted. So his recommendation was a small restaurant right across the bridge called Juicy Lucy’s steak house where we could have the best of both worlds.
After visiting several unique stores we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a short duration at the historic bar we were shown our table. As I reviewed the menu I noticed the perfect meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. Organically grilled elk sirloin sliced and served on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I wassurprised by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the choices. I was even more impressed by their daily specials such as; Broiled Sea Scallops stuffed with Alaskan King Crab or Grilled Hawaiian Opa with Oriental Citrus Glaze. I had to inquire about the flavor and quality since it was certain the closest ocean was a long distance away. He nurtured they only use the best ingredients and the fresh catch is flown in each morning six days a week. My wife ordered the Sea Scallops and I have to say if you had no idea you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would insist you were at a seafood restaurant near the cost.
The next day we decided on Basalt, and fell in love with the small towns from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. In this valley we could snowshoe in the winter, explore in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a fun event or concert almost any night. We found our heaven and knowing that no matter where we settled in the valley we were only a small distance away from the freshest seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have thought that a dining area named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would help us make one of the best choices ever.
