Golf Clubs: Best when Custom Fitted
Regardless of your skill level, golf clubs are only as good as the player that is swinging them. When it comes time to purchase new clubs or replace individual clubs in your bag, make sure that you look for the clubs that fit your game best as it is today. Clubs are built for specific issues that golfers find in their games and so there are many different types of clubs based on your skill as a golfer. Slight changes in loft, weighting and shaft material can make a huge difference in how a player approaches the game.
Over the counter golf clubs by Nike or Ping are designed to appeal to a large number of players of varying skill levels and should not be confused with custom fitted clubs. You can expect to get a great set of clubs at a reasonable price if you are willing to give up the prestige of saying that you own a custom set of golf clubs. Nike and Ping are two makers of clubs that have both over the counter clubs as well as custom fitted clubs that can actually improve a player’s game. When you are first starting out the name of the club has much less to do with your ability to play than it may as your skill progresses, so you may save yourself some money in the early stages of your golfing life by looking at lower priced sets.

The cost of your clubs nor the name on the bag makes a good golfer. Golf clubs are tools, nothing more, and like a mechanic you should choose your tools wisely and find the ones that fit your game perfectly.
The Ping i20 clubs offer custom fit as do Nike golf clubs and while custom fit golf clubs can lower your current scores you may be better spending your money on top flight instruction. At the point that a professional tells you that your game needs a better set of clubs, then it would be wise to get a better set. However, before then, it seems more a matter of locker room pride than actual functionality of the club. When the time comes to buy new golf clubs look for the best set you can afford that fits your game.
